Bnonn Tenant, ThinkingMatters. A very readable book and a devastating attack on the neo-Darwinist orthodoxy that evolution is nothing but natural selection acting on random variation.? With considerable wit and amazing insight, Marshall delivers a compelling and forceful synthesis that sets a new standard for discussions about the relationship between science and faith. The result is no less than astonishing.?

Evolution 2.0: Breaking the Deadlock Between Darwin and Design

The book is wonderfully thought-provoking, as Perry brings a fresh perspective to the increasingly arid and acrimonious debate between Intelligent Design and methodological naturalism.? A remarkable and useful resume of the state-of-the-art of this great problem of science.? I am committed to Young Earth Creationism, and thus cannot agree with some of Perry's conclusions.

Perry Marshall

However, I highly recommend this book to any skeptic who is committed to a purely materialistic paradigm. The science presented here - from the latest research to the most engaging minds on this subject? It allowed me to put down my guard. The author was not compelling me to believe in an ideology, but rather taking me alongside his journey of self-discovery. I came into this book hesitant. As a staunch creationist I found myself trying to fight with Marshall early on, but his arguments and presentation were flawless and compelling.

It was refreshing to see someone examine both sides honestly.? Armed with computer science and electrical engineering, Perry fights an uphill battle to unite the space between those who believe evolution is random and those who believe species are designed by God, who in some cases deny evolution itself.

Perry Marshall is an engineer who started to investigate biology. Maybe the war is over. Respond, criticize and debate it. Justin Brierley, host, Unbelievable? It helped me far better understand the fallacy of random mutations and how they are really introduced.

Details in Chapter 23 and Appendix 4. By re-examining Darwin, Marshall asks us to reconsider the most important question we face - what is life? John S. Is it possible to reconcile God with what we see in nature? This is a hard question even for those who have given the subject a tremendous amount of thought.

Perry Marshall tells us his own story of discovery searching for the real truth of evolution. Even if you disagree with his conclusions, you will find his insights and his arguments compelling.

We need to get past the dogmatic psuedo religion that has grown up around Darwin's ideas. It is clear that many of Darwin's arguments were based upon what he knew at the time. These ideas need to be updated by the sciences and practices of today which provide a more nuanced and powerful picture of evolution as we understand it today. We also need to acknowledge that what we now know only raises more questions whose answers still lie beyond our reach. I did have some minor issues with the repetition that Marshall used at the end of each chapter -- but I realize that this is a minor artifact of translating a written work into an audio book.

Okay, when I saw this was written by an electrical engineer, I almost rejected it out-of-hand. But it promised to address something that has always been a question of mine about evolution. Yes, descent with modification over billions of years is undeniable.

      Evolution - BenBella Books

But where is the evidence that modification as natural selection occurs only through random mutations. I kept looking but never found any. The empirical evidence of change has been presented often in many books I have read but never with any evidence of random mutations. Marshall presents five alternatives, each with massive experimental evidence.

At the same time he resists the temptation to go the route of many intelligent design advocates who make God the direct designer of countless trillions of modifications over 3. Get the book as well for references because you will want to go beyond his presentations. This book was intellectually compelling and it deals with a gray area subject of such diverse views that most deem opposing one another, namely science and religion. It was good to see this topic tackled head on. While I may not agree with everything the author says or asserts, thats the point.

There are many views that vary from staunch one side and the other. One critique I would make is that when discussing such a wide subject with so many facets of studies and disciplines mentioned and effected, it results in not being able to hear much retorts and criticism from each view being put forth.

But overall, very thought provoking. The content discussed in this book is excellent. Perry provides some interesting answers to questions I wondered about for years but never attempted to quantify.

      My Wishlist

The presentation is a bit repetitive and the audio production is not as good as professionally produced and resulted in a lower rating, but I highly recommend this book. It is time to move beyond the dogma of Darwin ism and creationism and see what science actually says about evolution. This book does it all. What would have made Evolution 2. Symbiogenesis - an evolutionary theory of the origin of eukaryotic cells from prokaryotic organisms.

Largely due to the work of Lynn Margulis it is now common knowledge that the mitochondria and chlorophyll in animals and plants were free-living bacteria in the dim past before they got "swallowed up" but not digested by one-celled amoebas. Thus the animal, plant and fungal kingdoms have become possible because of bacteria. Genome Duplication - cells and organisms are those containing more than two paired homologous sets of chromosomes.
